Sam Altman testifies: “AI needs regulation.” (Can I get an amen up in here?)

After Senator Blumenthal opened the AI hearing with a bit of a creepy AI generated version of his own voice, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, testified before a US Senate committee. Sam highlighted the potential risks of artificial intelligence. Altman called for US lawmakers to regulate AI, suggesting that a new agency form to license AI companies. He also acknowledged the potential dangers of AI’s ability to replace some jobs. Altman gave several suggestions for how a new agency could regulate the industry, including giving out and taking away permits for AI companies and independent auditing of firms.

Everybody chill - AI won’t just create or destroy jobs, it will likely add new jobs and transform existing roles

AI is not going to replace all jobs. It's likely to create more jobs than it will destroy. Many jobs will just undergo a transformation. Jobs that require creative problem solving, interpersonal relationships, and mobility and dexterity in unpredictable environments are pretty safe.

OpenAI decides to go open source. Duh.

OpenAI is preparing to release a new open-source AI model. I mean it’s literally called “open” AI, so seems like a no brainer. The model is expected to be released sometime in the next few months and will be available for use by researchers and developers. OpenAI has already made a name for itself in the AI industry, with its ChatGPT language model being widely used for natural language processing tasks. The release of a new open-source model will likely be welcomed by those looking to develop new AI applications and will further democratize access to cutting-edge AI technology.

Alphabet adds 115 billion in value, shuns the non-believers

Alphabet Inc. has returned to the artificial intelligence game. Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has added $115 billion in market value since unveiling its latest artificial intelligence (AI) tools at a developer's conference last week.

The stock had lagged behind other tech giants this year due to concerns about losing ground in the race to deploy AI products. However, the announcement of a more conversational search engine and broader availability of its AI-powered chatbot provided a timely boost. The excitement around AI is building, and Alphabet's recent performance puts them in a great position to succeed.

Microsoft claims AI has evolved to show human traits

Microsoft researchers claim ChatGPT-4 is starting to show signs of human reasoning, pointing to a leap towards AGI.

However, some experts are countering this, saying ChatGPT isn't truly intelligent.

Woah, shots fired, “experts”! Be careful, we mustn’t offend our future robot overlords. 😬

Tip of Day - List of AI terms and definitions most people don’t know

The world of artificial intelligence (AI) is filled with jargon that can be hard to understand. Prompterr wants to make sure you know the lingo and can keep up in a conversation. Here are some key terms that aren’t as common, but are important to know:

Algorithmic Bias
An error resulting from bad training data and poor programming that causes models to make prejudiced decisions.

Autonomous Agents
An AI model that has both an objective and enough tools to achieve it.

Emergent Behavior
Skills that AI might demonstrate that it was not explicitly built for.

Prompt Chaining
The process of using previous interactions with an AI model to create new, more finely tuned responses.

Multimodal AI
A form of AI that can understand and work with multiple types of information.

Alignment
Efforts to ensure AI systems share the same values and goals as their human operators.

Hallucination
Unexpected and incorrect responses from AI programs that can arise for unknown reasons.

Narrow AI
AI algorithms that are designed to do one thing and nothing more.
